Those of us who have played Plants vs Zombies know what an addictive, fun game it is. From the fifty different plants available for your army to the multitude of wacky Zombies crossing your lawn, you’re bound to get a laugh from every new level.
If you are playing in fullscreen mode, you will find it much easier to cheat if you play in windowed mode. Open the Menu and uncheck the 'Full Screen' box. Click 'Back to Game' and Plants vs. Zombies will change display modes. You will be able to see your desktop behind the game.
Want to have even more fun protecting your brains? How about Zombies in retro sunglasses or Zombies dancing? These are just two of the cheats coded into the game to ’enhance’ play. If you don’t want to “cheat” you can also check out our free Plants vs. Zombies strategy guide!
By typing any of the cheat codes shown in the table below during Plants vs Zombies game play, you can add new effects to the game and make a fun game even better! You don’t have to type the cheats in any specific location…just type them and the game will respond accordingly.
For those of you who are new to cheat codes (also known as Easter eggs), they represent additional ’hidden’ game triggers players can use to access new content, enhance gameplay, or just have a little fun. Popcap Games is known for including such Easter eggs in most of their games.
It should be pointed out that each code requires your Tree of Wisdom to be at a certain level. In the early stages of the game, some cheat codes will not work. However, the game will let you know your Tree of Wisdom isn’t tall enough…so you at least know the cheat code is legit. Have fun tricking out your PvZ gameplay!
Plants vs Zombies Cheat Codes
Type any of the following cheat codes during gameplay to see the effect take place. Remember, in some cases, you have to grow your Tree of Wisdom to a specific height in order to activate the code. In such cases, we’ve called out the minimum height required to activate the cheat.
Code: pinata
Effect: A shower of candy erupts from Zombie whenever one is destroyed.
Tree of Wisdom Height: 1000 Feet
Code: trickedout
Effect: The appearance of the lawn mower is updated to a much more tricked out style.
Code: future
Effect: Give Zombies futuristic retro shades (is that a contradiction of terms?). It’s like you’re back in the ’80s.
Code: daisies
Effect: Zombies leave small patch of daisies behind when destroyed.
Tree of Wisdom Height: 100 Feet
Code: mustache
Effect: What Zombie doesn’t want a killer motorcycle cop mustache? Make it happen!
Code: dance
Effect: Want to see some super-bad moves? Dance, Zombies, dance! FYI, this is different from the Dancing Zombies.
Tree of Wisdom Height: 500 Feet
The final Plants vs Zombies cheat code you can implement doesn’t result in any visual change to the game. It simply toggles the Zombie talk. Implement it and you’ll no longer hear the Zombies call for your BRAINS!!!!
Code: sukhbir
Effect: Turn Zombie’s brains-sound on and off (I can’t imagine wanting to do this).
Two Additional Tips for Gameplay Success
If you are new to Plants vs Zombies, it’s likely you are quick to build an army of plants to defend your home.
This technique may work in the early levels when the advancing Zombie army is small, slow, and underpowered. However, as the game progresses, it gets harder and harder to lead with power. Eventually, you’ll run out of sun and the Zombies will overrun your front lines.
The experienced Plants vs Zombies player knows what to focus on at the start of each level – sun, sun, and more sun! Without it, you’re brains are as good as eaten. Sun represents the energy you need to plant and sustain your army. Without an effective army the Zombies will overrun your lawn and all will be lost.
The question is, how do you insure you’ll have enough sun? After all, if you only plant Sunflowers, you’ll have no defenses to stop the advancing Zombies.
The trick here is balance.
While you’re dropping Sunflowers on your lawn, Zombies will still be advancing. Left unchecked, they can (and will) take down your smiling Sunflowers quickly. However, said Zombies can be dealt with swiftly without deviating from our sun strategy.
In the early stages of the game, the Zombie front lines are sparse and slow moving. Don’t take this as an opportunity to sit on your heels and casually establish your sun economy. You’ll still have to deal with each advancing Zombie. The technique here is to use cheap one-hit-kill plants like Potato Mines and Squashes to give yourself time to establish at least two columns of Sunflowers.
For those who are addicted to Pea Shooters in the early stages of the game, consider this, Popcap Games cites the combination of Sunflowers and one-hit-kill plants as the #1 and #2 strategies in the official Plants vs Zombies gameplay tips documentation.
If you’re still hesitant to put so much effort into plants that don’t function as weapons, here is one more fact that should open your eyes. Ty Roberts, the Associate Producer of Plants vs Zombies, endorses this technique.
Enough said.

Easy Zen Garden Earnings[edit]
You needn't actually be actively playing the game in order for the Zen Garden to continue producing coins. The game needs to be running, with the Zen Garden selected and showing on-screen, but you can then let it run in the background while doing anything else you like (gaming, browsing, whatever) and the game will not pause itself. Instead, coins will continue to appear in the garden at the usual rate.
You can either occasionally return to the game in order to manually collect the coins which have been produced or, to be sure that you are missing no coins, buy Stinky the Snail from Crazy Dave's Shop and let him pick up the coins on your behalf. If you have a sufficient number of plants regularly producing coins, Stinky will remain awake and continue to gather them. Otherwise, he will fall asleep occasionally. In that case, you only need to return to the game every so often and click on the snail to wake him up again. You can also ensure that he stays awake longer (and therefore collects more coins without your interaction being required) by feeding him a piece of chocolate.

The Number '2,147,483,647'[edit]
This number repeats itself a lot in the game!
Its the end point for Adventure Mode, Vasebreaker Endless, I, Zombie Endless, and Survival Mode as well as the maximum height for the Tree of Wisdom due to its 32 bit integer.

Play Slot Machine for Extra Coins and Diamonds[edit]
Plants Vs Zombies Hack
1) Set up your defenses around the slot machine. Try for one row of wallnuts on the right side, one or two rows of sunflowers on the left, and fill everything else with pea and snow pea shooters.
2) Protect the lawn mowers. Each are worth a Gold Coin at the end of the game, so don't let them mow the zombies.
3) Stop collecting sun around 1900 sun points. At this point, the garden should be full, so getting the extra 100 points to win should be easy. Just collect enough sun to offset the slot machine.
4) Keep the slot machine spinning! It will randomly drop one or three gems as long the patience lasts.
5) If the Zombies get close to the mowers, end the game. Just collect the sun lying on the field to end the game.
Milking Walnut Bowling for coins[edit]
Here's how to make Walnut Bowling more profitable:
1) Protect the Lawnmowers -- Each Mower is worth one gold coin ($250).
2) Line up shots off the front runner. After the first zombie is hit, each additional zombie strike generates coins.
3) Create a front runner where none exists! Pole vaulting zombies run fast until they vault over a nut, and the newspaper zombie runs fast after getting the paper destroyed by a nut. Just let them run a little bit down the lawn before sending a nut their way.
4) Just because you have nuts does not mean you have to use them. This is where 'Nerves of Steel' comes into play. When there are a few zombies ambling down the lawn without a clear ricochet shot, wait a little bit to see if more of their friends will step out to play. They can always be killed once they cross the red line.
5) Remember how many nuts it takes to kill a zombie; this is important when the cross the red line. Use one nut for regular zombies, three for bucket wearing zombies, and two for the rest.
6) Reserve the exploding nuts. Try not to use those nuts unless a mob crosses the line, or there are not enough nuts or room to clear out a hard to kill zombie. Use the regular walnuts for the zombies that have not reached the red line.
7) Don't use exploding nuts to kill pole vaulting zombies directly. Pole vaulting zombies only jump obstacles in their own lane. A pole vaulting zombie who has not vaulted yet will safely jump over explosions or nuts in their own lane; so find a neighbor in the next lane and time the nut to hit when the pole vaulting zombie gets close to the neighbor.
Switch Locked Seeds[edit]
Tired of being stuck with the crappy cards Crazy Dave makes you have? All you have to do is exit the game and restart it and the 3 cards will be changed to something else.
Unlimited Money[edit]
Once you have the Zen Garden, water the plants until they don't need anything else. After that, change the Date on your PC to another day. As soon as you do, the plants will need water again. Repeat this -- buy new plants, grow them to full size, sell and repeat to earn money.
This also works to get Marigolds in Crazy Dave's shop when they are out of stock. You can fill up your Zen Garden and make all the money you need. You don't even have to close out of the game.
